Here's how Trump really could make America groovy again

By Ann McFeatters

Having been effectually Washington D.C. for ii of the nation's three impeachments and the painful Richard Nixon saga, I take come to some conclusions about politics in America.

It is very predictable.

We seem to have a basic demand to tear things upwardly, make a big mess, get furious with each other, sometimes come up to blows, become distracted past an outside war or making money or different beliefs about what women tin exercise with their bodies, calm down for a while and so commencement the whole process all over again.

It is infuriating, counter-productive and inevitable. We are a huge land with volatile tempers and strongly-held behavior and patriotic fervour and selfish inclinations and a penchant for existence mesmerised by controversial personalities. Our history is full of mischief and mistakes, including the Civil State of war. Could such an unthinkable affair happen once more? Possibly. Probably.

The good news is that at the local level, we are skilful people. We aid our neighbours and hold church suppers to enhance money for good causes and vote and get wound up over making our communities meliorate. For the most role, we believe in and exercise civility with each other.

After natural disasters, nosotros are a model of people helping each other.

Yes, nosotros elected an immoral man who trash talks his critics, who has no long-term vision of America, who paid women not to talk well-nigh alleged affairs with him, who separates children from their parents and puts them in cages, who tried to ransom a foreign leader to manufacture clay on a potential political opponent, who has used our highest function to enrich himself and his family unit, who is ridiculed past other leaders, who panders to Americans' worst instincts.

But we have had bad leaders earlier. Segregationists, racists, men without morals, men who manufactured wars and killed thousands of people. We have had leaders who were hypocrites and abusers of power. We accept seen the thin veneer of civilisation ripped off, time and fourth dimension again.

Our mass communications make it easy for men and women of strong personality or talent or wealth to captivate united states. Merely the expert news is that such infatuations rarely last very long. We grow tired of them or see through them or recognise that they are, subsequently all, just flawed people similar anybody else.

The adept news is that more and more people are sickened by the abuses of partisan politics and want a better futurity. Non to resurrect the by, which was never equally good as some recollect. But to realise that we have to rebuild, literally, our crumbling land, clean up the gases which are destroying the climate, requite our children the education and values and opportunities they need for this modernistic earth and gainsay the poverty and hopelessness and opioid habit that affect too many of our young.

Americans are taking a new interest in civic date, re-examining what the Constitution says and means.

The skilful news is that in that location are growing local movements to take control of politics, to fight corporations that accept driveling employees and local authorities, to protest and march and prove up. The good news is that the bulk of Americans are repelled by politicians who boldly insist they are above the rule of constabulary, that the rules don't apply to them.

Americans are realising, once again, that life is yet largely about showing upwardly and that "integrity" is a good thing, non something to abandon, not something to be shamed by.

Americans are taking a new interest in borough engagement, re-examining what the Constitution says and means and adamant to regain our moral leadership in the earth. Not every American, of course, but more than than we have seen in years.

We have fought and so difficult for this commonwealth; then many have given their lives for this republic; and so many have put all their hopes in this republic.

Those who went earlier us did more than we will ever know to continue this commonwealth. If you have travelled to countries that don't permit their people live in a democracy, you know how sobering it is. We Americans are not united on a lot of issues just not one of us wants to live where oppression and lies rule.

While we have come close to losing that precious commonwealth, we oasis't lost information technology yet. The good news is that more of us see clearly now the dangers of giving in, slowly and unintentionally, to autocracy and how frightening information technology would exist to wake upwardly to that, to realise that foreign powers are in control, not Us voters.

Maybe Donald Trump will make America great again, just non in the manner he planned but by giving u.s.a. the will to disengage the damage he has done.
